Martyr Bhai Mani Singh Ji (1670-1734)

Bhai Mani Singh Ji grew up in the company of Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He took part in many battles to defend the faith. After the time of tenth Guru, he was appointed the head priest of Golden Temple. He applied to Zakkaria Khan, the Governor of Lahore, to seek permission to celebrate Diwali at Amritsar. The permission was granted, subject to payment of Rs.5,000. after the event. Bhai Mani Singh cancelled the event, when he found out the conspiracy of the Government to kill the Sikhs gathered on the day. He was arrested for not making the agreed payment and offered a choice between conversion to Islam and death. He accepted to be cut into pieces limb by limb.
