[31 text] Baba Deep Singh was born at village Pohuwind, District Amritsar (Panjab) in 1682. He made four hand-written copies of Guru Granth Sahib at Damdama Sahib. He fought many battles against invaders and laid down his life protecting Golden Temple on 11 November, 1757. He displayed unparalleled heroism. It is accepted in Sikh Tradition that he continued to fight the enemy even his head was severed.
[37 text] When Baba Deep Singh came to know that Jahan Khan, a General of Abdali, had violated the sanctity of the Golden Temple. He immediately set out in that direction with only eight other Singhs. On the way, large batches of Singhs joined him. However, at Sangarana, he drew up a line and asked them to cross over only if they are willing to lay down their lives. Everyone without hesitation jumped over the line. Baba Deep Singh had his head chopped off in the fight, but he carried it on his hand and fought his way to the periphery of Golden Temple, where he finally breathed his last.
